P&C Data Models: A Foundation for Insurance Data
A well-designed data model provides more than a technical representation of data. It provides a common language for understanding the business, defining how information relates across the organization, and creating a foundation for consistent data management.
For Property & Casualty insurance, this is particularly important. Policy, coverage, risk, claim, party, financial, and other business concepts exist across multiple systems and processes. Without a common understanding of these concepts and their relationships, organizations can end up with different definitions of the same information, inconsistent data structures, and significant effort spent reconciling data.
The P&C data models presented here were developed to address the data management needs of the P&C insurance community. The work incorporates OMG's Model Driven Architecture principles and draws on established P&C industry standards and business glossaries.
